Shocking Truth - Diet-Friendly Foods Are Not that Friendly

Even if we’re dieting or not, we are constantly attracted to the low-fat aisle in the supermarket, where the so-called figure-friendly products are. Because they’re marketed as super light and low on fat, we tend to believe that they’re actually healthier, while also a wonderful help when it comes to maintaining our weight. Regan, now working on a BBC televised series meant to overturn the myths that stand tall in today’s society – among which the one with the diet-friendly foods –, is also the scientist behind last year’s “revolution” in the beauty industry, when she proved all the claims cosmetics companies made about their products were mostly based on bogus science. She has now turned her attention to diet-friendly products, and to prove how they can actually do more harm than good, especially when we’re trying to lose weight.

Not all such products are good for us, Regan says in a piece for the aforementioned publication. Because the dieting segment of the foods industry has seen an incredible ascension over the recent years, companies have come up with very smart marketing that places all the emphasis on one particular aspect, while completely ignoring the others, such as is the case with the light, low-fat products. This is why reading the label of the item before buying it is essential, Regan says.

“We assume products labeled ‘reduced fat’ and ‘light’ will be better for us – but they can still be relatively high in fat and calories. The only regulation in place is that foods labeled “low fat’ must contain 3 per cent or less fat, and ‘fat free’ must not contain more than 0.5 per cent fat – so these are usually a good buy. It’s worth comparing nutrition labels, though, as ‘low fat’ could still contain more calories than standard versions. Food manufacturers are always trying clever ways to make their foods appear healthy.” Regan warns.

In order to illustrate that, Regan offers as example a recent ad for Jaffa Cakes, which was banned for intentionally misleading consumers into thinking they contained fewer calories than other similar products. The advert said they had only one gram of fat for each cake, but, in fact, they weighed only 10 grams – meaning they actually contained 10 percent fat, which is far from the “low fat” standard.

Unfortunately, this deceiving marketing does no apply only to low-fat foods, since most items labeled as healthy as far from that. “Processed foods marketed as healthy are often anything but. This is because they contain large amounts of sugar and salt, and, through processing, have lost many of their nutrients. ‘Whole grain’ is another marketing craze, and although whole grain foods are healthy, just because something contains fiber doesn’t mean much. A product must be high or rich in fiber to have any real benefit.” Regan concludes by saying.

Women Eat a Lifetime’s Worth of Fat by 50

Specialists commonly issue warnings about the high intake of fatty foods that can, and will ultimately lead to severe health and weight issues. The latest research in this sense comes to show that, indeed, where fat intake is concerned, most people have already consumed more fat than they need in a lifetime by the time they’re 50, with women being the most prone to find themselves in this situation, the Daily Mail informs.

By the time they reach 50, women have already consumed more fat than they should have, with their average “fat age” being of 92. Oppositely, men fare somewhat better, having a “fat age” of 71, but that still is too much than it’s healthy for either gender category. The conclusion of the research, conducted by the Lloyds Pharmacy chain, is that, by the time women reach their last years, they would have already consumed over 110 years’ worth of fat in chocolate, fast food and other unhealthy foods.

The study also points out that, given the huge spike in fatty food consumption between the ages 40-50 in both men and women, 50 is the critical threshold where health problems become more and more obvious. For the sake of argument, at 30, the average woman has a fat age of approximately 36, as also do men. The spike in fat intake is more marked past 40, with the height being at 50 when, presumably, the risks of being overweight or obese – and consequently having health issues related to these two conditions – increase considerably.

“It used to be said that life begins at 40 but these statistics suggest that for many of us it could be the beginning of years of health problems. By letting people see how ‘old’ they are in terms of fat consumption, we hope to be able [to] provide the impetus some people need to take charge of their weight.” Andy Murdock of Lloyds Pharmacy tells the aforementioned publication. In this sense, Lloyds has already made available a Fat Age Calculator on the official website, which is meant to calculate a person’s fat age depending on real age and the frequency of fatty foods intake.

Both the Calculator and the research are supposed to help people become more aware of what they eat, and especially of the consequences certain foods have on their body and health. In this context, the study says, children are also exposed to obesity and overweight risks, more so than their parents – which translates into that they will probably begin to experience health issues long before the age of 40-50.

Nevertheless, this is not to say that we should ban all foods that contain fat from our life, as nutritionist Johanna Hignett, who has worked with Lloyds on the research, says for the aforementioned publication. “If you have something today that is high in fat, then tomorrow choose from the fruit and vegetable end of the spectrum. People will have to make little sacrifices but we are not saying never eat fatty foods because then life would be boring.” Hignett advises.

Comic books have been the source of inspiration for a lot of the entertainment industry's creations, ranging from movies to TV series or animated cartoons. Not even the gaming segment left the genre unexploited and a variety of titles based on comic books have appeared over the years.

One of the most recent ones, set to be launched at the beginning of May in order to coincide with the theatrical release of the movie bearing the same name, is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The game, which is developed and published by Activision, is set to offer a great experience and deliver fans of the famous hero a game that they will be proud of, after a series of unfortunate titles that didn't really do the clawed avenger any justice.

But even though the game is set to be delivered in May for eagerly anticipating players, just like the movie, it was destined to be leaked and made available for download on torrent sites a bit early. Now, those who want to download and enjoy the game can do so on almost any torrent site because the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 versions of the game are up for grabs.

This will most likely trigger yet another reaction against piracy, but it will be a bit different, as the PC platform isn't the main culprit. The gaming industry really started with arcade games, like Frogger or Mario, but one of the most iconic series of titles developed for the big old arcade cabinets was Pac Man. Pac-Pix is a video game that makes extensive use of the DS' touch screen system, and makes the players draw Pac-Man and guide him through each level by drawing walls and doing what he does best, eating ghosts. Also, you can overcome obstacles like walls or shields by drawing bombs and arrows accordingly. Players can change the speed of the Pac-Man they create by setting the size of the drawing when it is being made.

Sadly, Pac-Pix doesn't feature a very precise detection system - if the objects are not drawn clearly enough or in the right order, the player needs to start over the whole level. Back in mid-March this year, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell launched a new all-in-one computer system, part of the company's Studio line of PCs. Simply dubbed Studio One 19, the fresh system was designed to provide computer users with an affordable all-in-one PC that combines computer performance with a sleek design.

It was initially released in Japan, where it was immediately made available for purchase in a variety of colors, but it now appears that customers in the US and Europe will also get their chance at owning one of these rigs.

Nokia Changes Services, Lays Off 450

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced today its plans to focus on the strategy of its services unit so as to be able to simplify and enhance the user experience with its services, while also opening new opportunities for third parties. In addition, the company is set to switch its focus to fewer initiatives, while increasing the use of certain services.

“The planned changes are aimed at improving and simplifying the user experience of Nokia services, increasing opportunities for third party developers and other partners to create compelling services, and accelerating the development of a common platform for Nokia's different service offerings,” said Niklas Savander, Executive Vice President, Services, Nokia.

One of the changes the phone maker plans to make consists in making all mobile games available through its Ovi Store, while also leaving them on the already existing channels. According to Savander, this move should be able to provide a better experience to the large number of users, while also creating new opportunities to game developers.

At the same time, Nokia plans to add a wide range of third-party partners, including other image and social networking sites, to the image capture and sharing features already available on its devices. Through this action, the company expects to further enhance the experience of those users that take advantage of third-party services.

Another result of these changes will be the fact that Nokia will realize its cost-efficiencies in a number of areas, while also streamlining its operations in many of its Services entities, such as its internal IT and Compatibility & Industry Collaboration activities that belong to the Corporate Development Office unit. Today's plans are expected to impact around 450 employees globally, yet the Finnish company also said that it would start consultations with employee representatives where applicable.

All these moves are part of the already announced strategy to adjust business operations and cost according to the market demand, while also ensuring the future competitiveness of the company, says Nokia.

With Robert Rodriguez now hammering away at bringing back one of the most dreadful creatures to have ever come from space, with the “Predator” reboot, speculation has started to build up regarding another killer of the kind. Ridley Scott, the original director of the 1979 “Alien” movie, is now trying to come up with a commercially successful reboot for the franchise, 20th Century Fox confirms for IESB.

Fox Co-Chairman Tom Rothman, while still keeping coy about the project, has revealed in a new interview that there is much talk of an “Alien” reboot. Nothing has yet been established so far but, from what Rothman says, it seems that such a thing could not happen without Scott, who is now tossing ideas around, and is thinking of either a reboot or a prequel.

“There’s been some talk.” Rothman says of the possibility of bringing the alien back to life on the big screen. “Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on ‘Robin Hood,’ but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.” he further explains. What fans could probably understand from this indirect confirmation, several movie-oriented publications are pointing out, is that an “Alien” movie is almost certainly happening – we just don’t know when.

Then again, the same goes for Rodriguez’s planned re-imagined “Predator” reboot, which will be envisioned in such a way as to include more than one killer, and has already been tentatively called “Predators.” Confirmation of it has already been made, but specific details have not been made public, presumably because the famed director is still working on them. “For Fox, Rodriguez has scripted ‘Predators,’ a film that will bring back the dreadlock-sporting alien hunter who originated in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger hit ‘Predator.’ While a sequel didn’t become a hit, Fox kept the alien sharp by launching the ‘Alien Vs. Predator,’ a wildly profitable series that has racked up strong grosses and DVD sales, with little or no gross out the door.” Variety was saying a couple of days ago.

As regards “Alien,” Ridley Scott has often voiced his willingness to make another film on the same topic, one that would preferably explore the origins of the monster. Main star Sigourney Weaver also expressed her intention of doing another film, but all plans were foiled when “Alien Vs. Predator” was announced.

In a move designed to lend a helping hand to customers affected by the global economic downturn, Microsoft has introduced what it referred to as three incentive offerings in relation with its Dynamics Customer Relationship Management and Dynamics Enterprise Resource Planning solutions.

The Redmond-based company is planning to ease the pressure put on customers by the economic downturn by allowing them to buy Dynamics CRM as a standalone product, but also to take advantage of discounts and a flexible option plan. US-based firms will be the largest beneficiaries of the incentives announced by the software giant.

“Microsoft is pleased to introduce Business Ready Flexible Pay for Microsoft Dynamics. Via the Business Ready Flexible Pay for Microsoft Dynamics, the Redmond-based company is allowing firms to buy the solutions today, start deploying and using them, but only pay over the next three years. Machayya noted that the Business Ready Flexible Pay promotion went live on April 20, and would last until December 23, 2009. Only new Business Ready Licensing customers can take advantage of the offer.

In addition, the software giant is offering consistent discounts to Sage MAS 90 or MAS 200, or Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne customers looking to switch to its own ERP products. The Redmond-based company informed that come May 2009, select partners would offer discounts of as much as 50% on licensing. Eligible customers also have the possibility to opt for a rebate of 25% of Dynamics's estimated retail price, but no more than $25,000. PC Sales Charts – New titles Dominate The Charts

PC gaming has been doomed by various analysts and developers in the gaming industry for quite some time. Its fate was sealed, in their opinion, by consoles, which hold the key to the future of virtual entertainment because of their low piracy rates and the more developer-friendly platforms.

But things are still going well for the most popular gaming platform in the world, as a lot of titles are doing great despite being launched only for the PC. Last week's number two, Zeno Clash, is now on a respectable seventh place, but what it lost in term of sales on Steam, it gained on Direct2Drive.

The other popular digital download service has been dominated by ACE's first-person brawler, granting it the number one spot in sales. Civilization IV follows it, while the ever so popular Final Fantasy XI takes the number three place. While the other spots are occupied by almost the same titles as last week, Mass Effect makes a surprising appearance, showing that you can't keep a good RPG down.

Swine Flu Forces Fox To Postpone ‘Wolverine’ Premiere

20th Century Fox has decided to play it safe under the given conditions and not expose anyone to unnecessary risks, by postponing the premiere of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” in New Mexico, People magazine confirms. Otherwise, the movie would have certainly taken a hit at the box-office, as Mexican officials have warned people to stay indoors and all the major theater chains have been closed down.

The much expected premiere was supposed to take place this Friday, but has been pushed back to a yet undisclosed date. Given that the swine flu is an issue more serious than any movie premiere, the movie studio took this initiative both as a sign of regard and to protect all those involved in the production, who would have had to travel there to attend the opening festivities, as is customary in such cases.

“We were not only concerned about Hugh [Jackman]’s welfare – and we would never send anyone into harm’s way – but we also have an enormous office filled with people we care about. There was no point in proceeding under the current conditions.” a spokesperson for 20th Century Fox says for the mag. Another release date has not yet been set, and will probably not be so for yet another while, until authorities get the crisis under control.

Either way, Variety says, should Fox have gone ahead with the premiere, the film would have taken a serious hit at the box-office given that Mexican authorities are warning people to stay indoors, and all the major theater chains are being progressively shut down. “Scores of screens owned by exhibitors Cinepolis, Cinemex, Cinemas Lumiere and Cinemark have gone dark, and the remaining chains and indies are expected to follow suit. Cinepolis is also shutting theaters in the states of Mexico and San Luis Potosi. Cinemark and Cinemas Lumiere sites are closed until further notice, while others hope to reopen later this week depending on the situation.” Variety says.

As far as fans know right now, the “Wolverine” premiere in the US will presumably go as scheduled, meaning the movie will open in theaters nationwide also on Friday, May 1. However, keep an eye on this space in case anything changes.

1. One of the most easiest trick to access Facebook is through proxies or from proxy sites. Despite its advantages, Proxy sites can be very annoying and sometimes spammy. However, if you are determined to use it, here are some of the recommended sites that will bypass firewalls;

• UnBlockFacebookNow
• Facebook Proxy

2. Another trick is to use your PC as a Remote control to access sites that are blocked at school or at work. The only problem you could face while installing a Remote Control application is that you might not have the privilege to install it on your school or office PC’s. Therefore, there is a fifty fifty chance of getting this right. In case you want to try is, some recommended applications include;

• Crossloop
• Remote Admin

3. Last but not the least, install this application by Facebook, titled Access Facebook at School. What this application does is that it looks for accessible proxy sites which could later be used to access Facebook on the go. Install this app onto your computer and spread the word among your friends to install this as well.

So whenever anyone of you faces a problem of blocked site, you can ask your friends to send you the URL so that you may bypass it. Nifty isn’t it?!

In the end, if you follow any of these tricks, don’t forget to clear your Browsing History and cookies when finished, because a good criminal never leaves a trace behind! :D

this tutorial will help you to create compressed files protected by password, that will help you to share your files through the web with your friends in safe way.

you can also store your private data on your pc or what ever and you will be the only one who able to open them

to do this you will need to have "winrar" installed on your machine

After installing it follow below steps to know How To Password Protect A Rar File:

01. Now Choose for which file or folder (or both) you want to apply Password Protection, Select that File/Folder or Files/Folders [Press Ctrl+Select Multiple Files]
In my example I have chosen a File and a Folder to Password Protect:


02. Right Click them and you will see New options. Select Add to archive... Option:


Now click on Advanced tab and choose Set Password... Option:


03. Once there, Enter password and repeat same for Reenter password for verification and press Ok

Now as you can see there are two more options in above picture, one is to Show password, and as the name implies it Shows you the Password only while entering and the other is Encrypt file names, what this option will do is, whenever anyone tries to Open your Protected file, He or she has to enter the password first to see even the filelist. These two options are completely optional.

04. Now click on General tab and after choosing the File name press Ok


You are successfully made a Password Protected File.

Now whenever someone tries to extract your files to access them, He/She has to enter the password first

Besides this simple Password Protection you can also choose few extra options while packing it in general tab. If you have any doubt about anything feel free to ask me and I will help you.

You can have multiple Firefox profiles, each containing a separate set of user information. this would help if you are using pc with another people like family members or what ever .

Note:
Using multiple profiles and profile management are advanced features intended primarily for extension developers. Unless you are an advanced user or are troubleshooting a specific problem with Firefox, you should avoid using multiple profiles.

Okay here we go:

01. Close your Firefox.


02. Now Go To Start --> Run or use Win+R keys and type this:
firefox.exe -ProfileManager






For Vista/Windows 7



03. This will open Profile Manager for you. Now click on Create Profile... (I have untick Don't ask at startup option, so that you can select which profile to load when you start Firefox)


Click Next and now Choose the Name of your profile(marked as 1). You can optionally choose where to save your profile data, just click on Choose Folder... and choose the location , which is useful if you plan on exporting your data and settings to another computer or setup in the future. And finally click on Finish.




04. You will be taken back to choose the profile you want to work with, as we have previously selected to show it everytime, so whenever you start Firefox, you will be shown below screen, so that you can choose your working profile:


Besides this, you have other options like:

• Rename Profile..., to rename a profile selected.
• Delete Profile..., to delete a selected profile.
• Work offline, to loads the selected profile and starts Firefox without connecting to the Internet. You can view previously viewed web pages and experiment with your profile.

New Samsung "Omnia Pro" Expected To Come In July

According to the latest news on the Web, Korean mobile phone maker Samsung is on its way to come to the market with a new version of its popular Omnia handset, only that this time the device is reported to include a full QWERTY keyboard, coupled with a touchscreen-capable display.

In addition to the sliding QWERTY, it seems that the upcoming Omnia model will run under the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, yet it will also include Windows 6.5 upgrading features as soon as the new platform becomes available on the market.

The specification list of the new handset shows the 3.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen display that can provide an 800 x 480 pixel WVGA resolution, the horizontal slide QWERTY keyboard and a 5-megapixel photo snapper that also includes auto focus, image stabilizer, flash and video, though there are no certain details in regard to the processor that has been included in the device, nor on the amount of RAM and ROM it should sport.

According to Hdblog.it, the new Samsung Omnia Pro should become available on the market starting this summer, in July, to be more precise, and it is expected to hit the shelves featuring a price tag of around 500 Euros (around $659), a figure that reflects the high-end characteristics of the mobile phone.

For what it's worth, there is no official info on the new Omnia Pro, and no image with the phone has made it into the wild either , yet the handset seems to be a highly expected successor of the already popular Omnia i900 and Omnia HD i8910 devices. Unfortunately, the upcoming Omnia Pro won't be the Samsung phone to come with the Google Android operating system either, though the maker already announced that such an Omnia model would be launched to the market in the not-so-distant future.

How To Create File Or Folder Without Name

Have you ever tried to create a file or folder in Windows without any name or character.You might have been challenged by many of your friends. I was also challenged by my roommates about this hack.I learn in few easy steps to hack the file or folder without name. You may also learn and can win challenge. Just follow the below mentioned few steps…I did it on windows 98, 2000,2003 and vista.

1. Select any Folder or File You Like to Rename

2. Right-click the file and click Rename or just press the F2 key to rename it.

3. Press and hold the ALT key. While holding the Alt key, type the numbers 0160 from the keyboard.
(Note: The numbers must be typed from the numpad of keyboard. i.e the number keys present on the right side of the keyboard and NOT from the number keys present above the top of character keys.)

4. The file will be created without a name.

File is named with a single space.If you want to create a second file without a name in the same directory as the first one, the above steps will not help.How do you create a second “nameless” file / Folder?

1. Follow the first 3 steps mentioned above.

2. Release the ALT key. Again repeat the first 3 steps.

3. Now the seond file will be created with two spaces.

You May Repeat it for any number of files or folders

2. Dialog will appear: you’re going to want to go down to the bottom and select “All Files”. Then you are going to name the file: Batch.bat. After that, go to where you saved it, and open it. That will open up Command Prompt.

3. However, if the computer has notepad blocked, you can easily go to any web page and then go to “View>View Source”. That will easily open up Notepad.

4. After that, you will be able to do as you wish inside command prompt. Here is how to add or delete accounts:

* Add Account: C:>net user USERNAME /add
* Change Accounts password: C:>net user USERNAME * then you’ll be able to enter a new password for the account. If you just press enter without typing anything, the account password will be reset.
* Delete Account: C:>net localgroup Administrators# # Another way is to open up notepad, (if its not blocked), and type in “command.com”. Then goto File->Save As. A USERNAME /ADD
